Courtly Love

   Hi everyone,
   just another medieval snippet!

Courtly love was a literary movement conjured by the troubadours in Southern France in the 1100's. It combined refinement, chivalry, courtly manners and the veneration of nobly born women. Courtly love appeared as a backlash to the brutality of the era in an attempt to civilize the aristocratic levels in society. The movement spread throughout Europe and greatly effected troubadours and writers in England, Germany and Italy. Courtly love's influence was long reaching and aspects of this ideal were emulated by artists, poets and writers though the centuries; such as the Romantic poets and the Pre-Raphaelites of the late 19th century.

A New Year

Hi Everyone,
May your new year bring prosperity, health and happiness. And for any writers out there, lots and lots of contracts.
I have to admit I was more than a bit slack on the writing over the entire Christmas period. However I have written a long 'To Do' list and stuck it above my desk. The list is of the ever growing number of books, novellas and stories that I'm meant to be writing. At the moment it consists of four novels, one novella and a short story. I'm trying really hard to ignore the ideas that are screaming at me from the filing cabinet and the other eight sitting on my laptop. The problem is I tend to flit from one story to another, instead of knuckling down and finishing one at a time. I always have good intentions but then out of nowhere comes a little idea and I get side tracked. I'm the first one to admit that I get distracted easily ...ooh, something shiney. The perfect example would be that I'm writing this instead of plowing away at  my WIP. It's already made it to 29,000 words and has about eight more scenes to write. Or even worse an idea popped into my head yesterday, which is lovely but it is for a second book in the series I'm conjuring. Problem is the first book is only at 10,000 words - therefore thinking about the second or third book is a little premature. As I said easily distracted.
So maybe when I watched the fireworks from my balcony on New Years Eve, I should have made a resolution. To pick one story and stay with it until it's finished. ...ooh pretty shiney...
