A Drop of Rain

Hi everyone,

Today I’m part of the MFRW’s Book Hook.

Here are a few sentences from my medieval fairytale – Rain.

He hovered high above the ground as the heavy rain ran over his lithe body. As each drop hit his skin, he revelled in the exhilaration of the storm as it swirled around him. With one deft movement his grey wings sent him soaring upward, where he spun and spiralled in the damp, cold air.

There, he floated until a small movement from below caught his pale, ice-grey eyes. His interest snared, he swooped lower and saw with amusement that a small village lay below. It sat on the side of a river, in the shadow of a great mountain. As he flew closer, he saw its inhabitants running to and fro in a vain attempt to escape from the storm. The smoke from their hearth fires, which burnt so brightly in an endeavour to warm their tiny cottages, curled in the air and wafted up to where Maras flew.

Blurb

1216 AD

On the mountain, high above the village of Farran – Nuri is caught between heaven and hell. Two men fight for her love and her soul. The first is Maras, an elemental being who follows the storms. Nuri knows that he is not human, he’s something more. She believes he is her beautiful fallen angel. Yet he is transient and is bound to the elements and their love may be as fleeting as the storm itself. The second is Brother Erebus, a pious monk whose tortured soul is twisted by his desire for her.

But Nuri may sacrifice more than her heart when the Church brands her angel a demon. As Brother Erebus will do anything to protect her soul from the silver haired devil, even if he has to crush her body to do it.

It doesn’t help that her closest friend, Nick, is also a soldier. Unfortunately Sienna is struggling to deny her attraction to the sexy marine, even knowing there can be no future in it. When the injured soldier admits he wants her just as badly, and has always wanted her, the fight to control her feelings becomes harder.

And now she’s learning things about her late husband that surprise even her. When the secrets of Rob’s life come to light, Sienna finds herself involved with some very nasty people and Nick is determined to protect her, no matter what.

As the danger grows to both her heart and her life, Sienna needs to decide if it was the army that was the problem or her late husband. Is Nick worth the heartache of being a military spouse again? And will he be able to protect her from the ring of drug dealers slowly closing in?

Tango Love (Novella)
By Nicole Flockton

A sexy short story about being in love with your best friend— and discovering it takes two to tango.

Melinda Jones has been in love with her housemate, James Brady, since he moved in…but she has no intention of ever telling him. Except it seems James has his own plans…and they include asking her to share a sexy tango — then a little dirty dancing in his bed.

For Melinda, it's the best night of her life...until she wakes up alone the next morning. Is she destined to spend her life dancing by herself, or will James step up to be the partner of her dreams?

The Holiday Survival Guide (Novella)
By Jane O’Reilly

Witty, clever, and sharp. It's going to be theholiday from hell...and that's just how Erica wants it.

When tabloid journalist Erica Parker is forced to take a holiday, she's determined to make it the most miserable holiday she possibly can, but not even her impressive imaginative powers could have come up with sharing a tent with survival expert Nathan Wilde.

Nathan was a married man with a successful TV show before Erica got to work on his life. Now the hottest man she’s ever met is single, furious, and he’s got her alone in the wilderness for three long days…

Runaway Groom
By Fiona Lowe

Amy Sagar's life is in ruins. Fired from her fast-track job and dumped by her double-crossing boyfriend, she retreats to Whitetail, Wisconsin, to lick her wounds and regroup. Meeting an impossible, sexy Australian isn't part of her strategy for getting back on track.

Ben Armytage is running away. After being left at the altar and publicly humiliated, he's taking his vintage motorcycle on an extended road trip from Argentina to Alaska. Having his journey interrupted by a breakdown and sharing a house with a curvy, redheaded lawyer in a town obsessed with weddings was never on his itinerary.

Though being stuck in a luxury log cabin isn't really a hardship, living together with their broken hearts isn't easy. When the attraction between Amy and Ben proves unstoppable, they'll both begin rethinking their plans…

In Too Deep
By Tracey Alvarez

She vowed never to return.

To save her brother from financial ruin, Piper Harland must do the one thing she swore she’d never do—return to the tiny island home-town where Ryan “West” Westlake crushed her heart. Piper is tough, resilient and a little wild—much like the remote and beautiful Stewart Island where she grew up. As a cop who’s part of the elite New Zealand Police National Dive Squad, bringing the dead back to their families still doesn't stop the guilt she feels over her father’s drowning death. Now nine years later she’s obligated to return to a hostile community as the outsider, and forced to work with the man who was once her best friend and first lover.

She’s a risk he can’t take.

West is an Island man, through and through. As owner of the local pub, he lives and breathes the local community, and sure as hell can’t imagine living anywhere else. But most of all he refuses to ever fall for a woman like his flighty mother. He lost Piper once to give her the chance to fulfil her dreams of becoming a cop. But now she’s back for an unexpected six week visit to help her brother—his best mate. Maybe West wants her a little bit, maybe he can’t resist the temptation to tease and touch her, but can he fall in love with such a flight risk?

Saying goodbye the second time might just destroy them both.

Dear Stranger (Novella)
By Elise K. Ackers
A beautiful love letter to the most troublesome of holidays...

Soft-hearted Reese Ahearn is single for Valentine’s Day. Again. But that’s not going to stop her from spreading the holiday’s sentiment on the streets of Melbourne with short, sweet, anonymous love letters, left for strangers to find.

The last thing she expects, however, is a reply…

January Blog Hops, Tours & Guests.

Hi everyone,

January is shaping up to be a busy month. I have a blog tour coming up as well as a couple of blog hops (which are always fun).

First of all, my clever son made a new banner for me – isn’t it pretty.

On the 20th of Jan, I’ll be taking my medieval fairytale on a blog tour. I’ll post all the links when it begins. There will be a few prizes on the way and a $20 Amazon gift card up for grabs. Hope you will come along and tour with me. J

Also on the 20th the lovely Victoria Vane will be dropping by to give us a few insights into her new book, Jewel of the East.

The 25th is going to be a little hectic and a lot of fun with two blog hops.

The first is the Burns’ Night Blog Hop where we will be celebrating all things Scottish. So if you love hot highland heroes, a wee dram or just the incredible beauty of the land itself, I hope (or hop – okay it was a bad attempt at humour) that you will join us.

The second hop is the 2014 Australia Day Book Giveaway Blog Hop. It runs from the 25th-28th and there will be, as the title says – heaps of book giveaways. All the participating authors are Australian, so you may find an old favourite or discover something new.

I post Bewitching Blurbs every Tuesday (my time). It features blurbs and buy links from newly released titles. If you want to be included in Bewitching Blurbs you can drop me an email at nicole@nicolehurley-moore.com   or feel free to add your title, name, blurb & Amazon buy link in the comments section of that week’s post.

As always thanks so much for stopping by.

One of the renowned Libertine Scholars, Christian Trent once enjoyed the company of any woman he chose. But that was before the horrors of Waterloo, his wrongful conviction of a hideous crime, and his forcible removal from England. Far from home and the resources he once had, Christian believes the life he knew—and any chance of happiness—is over . . . until his ward’s governess sparks his heart back to life, and makes him remember the man he used to be. Now Christian is determined to return to England, regain his honor, and win the heart of the woman he has come to love.

A New Year

Hi everyone and happy New Year!

As we look to another shiny new year and all the possibilities it may bring, I thought I would re-examine my writing. What I want, what I don’t want, and the themes and stories that I would like to explore over the next twelve months.

I’ve decided to put aside a story for the time being. Not because I don’t believe in it but because no matter which way I looked at it, I couldn’t get it to flow. I’m hoping by putting a little distance between us, I’ll be able to finish it at a later date.

Instead ,I’m revisiting an idea I half planned out last year. It’s a fantasy (medieval fairytale) and at the moment I’ve manage to match the word count of my previous story in four days. So yes, the story appears to be flowing from my fingertips, which is always a good thing.

I have an ever growing list of stories to write above my desk. This year (well, yesterday) I drew a red line under the first five. My intention, although maybe a tad ambitious, is to get these stories written within the coming year. They consist of two novellas and three short novels of approximately 75,000 words (give or take).

Whether or not I’ll be able to accomplish this, I don’t know. But I thought it would give me direction, something to aim for rather than being slightly overwhelmed by the number of titles all up. There is also a mixture of different time periods and fantasy/paranormal themes.  I’m a fickled creature and find that I need a change of world between each story. It seems to keep me interested, fresh and inspired.

To other news -

Dancing on Air just received ‘a must read’ 4 star review from BTS Reviews which has kind of made my morning. J It’s on pages 27-28.
http://www.joomag.com/magazine/bts-book-reviews-issue-18/0694700001388527151#.UsXus2PSdWI.facebook

I’m also adding a link to Romantic Historical Reviews. There’s a lovely review of Dancing on Air.

I’m taking my medieval fairytale, Rain on a blog tour this month. It begins on the 20th of January. I hope you will join me.

As always, thanks for stopping by. I hope that coming year brings you love, laughter and much happiness.
